The Ritual of the Five Archangels - a practice for supporting intentions
The ritual of the five archangels - a spiritual practice for supporting intentions and wishes
In a great many spiritual traditions, prayer, intention and symbols are used as ways for people to voice their aspirations and cultivate confidence in their own path.
The ritual of the five archangels is a practice carried out over the course of a week, in which each day is dedicated to one archangel and to an intention framed with clarity and gratitude.
For those who choose to take it up, the ritual is a time set aside for reflection, discipline and alignment with their own goals.
Who is this ritual for?
According to the tradition it comes from, the ritual can be carried out for any intention framed in a beneficial and responsible way, such as:
personal development;
prosperity;
health;
harmony in the family;
career;
professional success;
inspiration;
finding work;
clarity in making a decision;
opening up to new opportunities.
It is best for the intention to be worded positively, clearly and with your own life in mind, respecting the freedom and choices of others.
The direction of the ritual
The whole practice is carried out facing East, a direction that in many traditions symbolises beginnings, light, hope and rebirth.
What do you need?
For each day you will need:
a small piece of paper, cut into the shape of a triangle;
a candle (the colour can be chosen according to your own practice);
a few minutes of quiet and focus.
The structure of the triangle
Three elements are written on each triangle.
The bottom left corner
Write the wish, worded as though it had already come about.
For example:
"I am grateful for my new job."
or
"I enjoy harmony and prosperity in my work."
The bottom right corner
Write the name of the archangel for that day.
The top corner
Write:
Divine Light
This symbolises the orienting of the whole intention towards good, harmony and light.
The five archangels of the ritual
Monday - Archangel Gabriel
Tuesday - Archangel Samariel
Wednesday - Archangel Rafael
Thursday - Archangel Uriel
Friday - Archangel Barahiel
How is the practice carried out?
On each of the five days:
Sit facing East.
Light the candle.
Fill in the triangle with the three elements.
Frame your intention calmly and with gratitude.
Keep the triangle with you throughout the day.
According to the tradition, all the triangles are kept until the ritual is complete.
Closing the ritual - Saturday
On Saturday, all five triangles are arranged in a circle.
A white candle is lit in the centre of the circle.
There follows a moment of gratitude, in which the practitioner gives thanks for the fulfilment of the intention and for the blessings received.
At the end, the triangles are burned, and the ash is offered symbolically to nature, left on the earth or in running water, as a gesture of closing and release.
Symbolically, this ritual can be done in the first part of the year, to cultivate prosperity for the year ahead.
Conclusion
The ritual of the five archangels is a spiritual practice that brings together symbolism, intention and gratitude in a sequence unfolding over the course of a week.
Beyond the ritual elements, its value lies in the time we choose to give to reflection, to clarifying our goals and to cultivating a responsible attitude towards our own lives.
For many practitioners, moments like these are an invitation to inner balance, to hope, and to the confidence that important changes always begin with a sincere intention and with actions aligned to it.
